Colorado Fly Fishing Classes

At Mile High Angler one of our main goals is education.  After taking one of our specialty Denver Fly Fishing Classes, anglers will have a much better understanding of Fly Fishing in Colorado and of fly fishing in general. Some of our classes are designed for beginners and others are for more experienced or advanced anglers.  Small class sizes ensure quality one-on-one time with our instructors.

Introduction to Fly Fishing Class Private Water

Cost:  $300.00 per person

Our introduction to fly fishing class is the best way to learn the basics Colorado Fly Fishing.  Fly fishing can be a little intimidating to someone new to the sport.  We take a calm and patient approach to help you learn the basics of fly fishing in Colorado.  Our feeling is that learning the sport of fly fishing is best done hands on.  Our intro class is done in one day, on private water and with hands-on application.  We can rent and provide all the gear necessary including rods, reels, waders, flies, and leaders for anglers who need them.  The students are responsible for bringing their own lunch and personal items.

The class is held on our exclusive private ranch, The Meadows.  The Meadows is located on the North Fork of The South Platte River, only 50 minutes from Denver.  This provides the perfect learning environment, ensuring a calm and relaxed pace for the day. There will be no other anglers pressuring the river and there are plenty of big fish to be caught during the fishing portion of the class.

The class will cover various aspects of fly fishing including equipment, knots and rigging, entomology (the study of aquatic insects), reading water and casting.  After lunch, students will be able to practice their newly acquired skills on some of the best private water fly fishing in Colorado.

Prices include professional teaching and instruction, class hand-outs and private water.  It is the student’s responsibility to provide their own transportation, fishing license, lunch and beverages.  Rental equipment is available.  Gratuity for the instructor is not included.  Class size is limited to 6 students ensuring one-on-one time with our instructors.  Because of the small class size, please call early to ensure your spot.

These classes are held on the Meadows, our exclusive 2 mile long private ranch on the North Fork of The South Platte River.  The Meadows is managed to produce some of the largest trophy trout in Colorado, some of which tip the scales at close to 10lbs!  This year we have added heat to the “Trout Shack”, making it a comfortable place to change, eat, rig and get out of the elements.  There are also two restrooms on the property for your use.

This class is designed for advanced and experienced anglers.  The instructor will provide detailed information on winter fly fishing in Colorado covering everything from rigging, fly selection, presentation and other winter techniques.

What’s Included:
Anglers are provided with guided and instructional fishing, 2 miles of private water, a heated facility and a suggested equipment list including a winter fly selection.

Cancellations by a customer are only refundable if we can fill your spot with another angler.

These Winter Fly Fishing Classes are very popular and usually book up quickly.  To ensure your spot please contact us in advance.  If our classes are full, we will place you on the wait list.  If a space opens up, you will be the first to be contacted.

Fly Casting Lessons

Cost $75/hr.

Fly Fishing is all about casting and line management.  Anglers looking to advance past the beginner stages of fly fishing should learn as much as possible about casting.  Improving your fly casting skills will open up more possibilities as to where you can fish and the types of species you can target.  Capt. Chris Wells is a certified casting instructor and teaches all of the casting lessons.  He specializes in teaching the Double Haul and long distance casting.  These lessons can be done on one-on-one basis or with groups of up to four.  For more information please email us.
