Our introduction to fly fishing class is the best way to learn the basics of Colorado Fly Fishing. Fly fishing can be a little intimidating to someone new to the sport. We take a calm and patient approach to help you learn the basics of fly fishing in Colorado. Our feeling is that learning the sport of fly fishing is best done hands on. Our intro class is done in one day, on private water and with hands-on application.
We can rent and provide all the gear necessary including rods, reels, waders, flies, and leaders for anglers who need them. The students are responsible for bringing their own lunch and personal items.
The class is held on our exclusive private ranch, The Meadows. The Meadows is located on the North Fork of The South Platte River, only 50 minutes from Denver. This provides the perfect learning environment, ensuring a calm and relaxed pace for the day. There will be no other anglers pressuring the river and there are plenty of big fish to be caught during the fishing portion of the class.
The class will cover various aspects of fly fishing including equipment, knots and rigging, entomology (the study of aquatic insects), reading water and casting. After lunch, students will be able to practice their newly acquired skills on some of the best private water fly fishing in Colorado.
Prices include professional teaching and instruction, class hand-outs and private water. It is the student’s responsibility to provide their own transportation, fishing license, lunch and beverages. Rental equipment is available. Gratuity for the instructor is not included.
Class size is limited to 6 students ensuring one-on-one time with our instructors. Because of the small class size, please call early to ensure your spot.

These classes are held on the Meadows, our exclusive 1 mile long private ranch on the North Fork of The South Platte River. The Meadows is managed to produce some of the largest trophy trout in Colorado, some of which tip the scales at close to 10lbs! This year we have added heat to the “Trout Shack”, making it a comfortable place to change, eat, rig and get out of the elements. There are also two restrooms on the property for your use.
This class is designed for advanced and experienced anglers. The instructor will provide detailed information on winter fly fishing in Colorado covering everything from rigging, fly selection, presentation and other winter techniques.
Because this is a winter fly fishing class, we fish in all winter conditions. Mile High Angler alone reserves the right to cancel a class. Classes will be canceled if the river is too frozen to fish or if the roads are closed due to weather. If we must cancel a class due to conditions, we will make every effort to move the class to another date. If no other dates are available we will gladly issue a refund. Cancellations by a customer are only refundable if we can fill your spot with another angler.
